The world was a boring place when one was spending their time by themselves in a single spot. Kylon had decided that much. She liked the territory she'd decided to claim as her own. However, she couldn't live in complete solitude for long. So, she'd decided it was time for her to go on a recruiting trip. In other words, she was lying to herself and saying she would go looking for new members, though all she really wanted was some company from another living being. Now, Kylon found herself in a forest. The leaves on the ground were deep and, though easy to pass through, some effort was needed. Kylon followed the slop of the land, lost in thoughts. Suddenly, her feet met a chilling liquid and she jumped back. Her head jerked back and she gasped, but she didn't scream from the surprise. In front of her was a shallow river. The other side wasn't far away, but the water was cool. Now that she knew what she was doing, she tried stepping in it again. It wasn't as cold this time. My surprise probably made it seem colder, she thought. Now I need to decide... Do I cross the river and continue travelling on my search or should I hang around here and see if anyone shows up? She wondered. Kylon sat down, debating it with her eyes up on the sky. Clouds were drifting by slowly, their movement almost nothing from her point of view. Soon, the leaves would finish falling from trees. Eventually her winter fur would grow in. Hopefully soon, she thought, because temperatures are going to start getting chilly. So much was happening. She hoped that soon, she'd find people to join her pack. Which reminds me, I need to figure out where I want to go from here!--- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Doherty had puffed out his fur against the cool wind, and shivers ran up and down his lean body. He had found a shallower part of the river where her could see the bottom of the riverbed clearly, but this water was growing chilly as it approached night time. He was wading through the water, embracing its healing touch on his raw pads. The drought had made the ground rough for far too long, and it had taken a toll on Doherty's paws; but now, with the cooler weather and promise of rain, he was sure that would be a thing of the past. Until winter comes, he thought. Then he had a whole new range of problems he would have to deal with. His short coat and lean stature made it hard for him to bulk up and stay warm during the winter. He still managed it however, in the end. ````He stumbled slightly on a large submerged rock, and growled at his clumsiness. Righting himself, he noticed a large, dark figure in his peripheral vision. Was it a moose? Possibly a bull elk? If it was, he was in pretty big trouble. He was way too close for comfort, it was going to attack. Snapping his head in the direction of the figure, his eyes fell not on the giant, lumbering form of a moose, but on a wolf. A female. A dominant female. Doherty stood stock still, staring at her, more out of shock and surprise rather than fear. Had he not tripped and seen the dark figure of the female, he would have just kept walking, being none the wiser. It was while he was registering this in his head that he was reminded of his manners, of his nature and status. ````Doherty looked away from the female, gazing at the ground near her feet instead. He dropped his head and tail, wagging it slightly. He let out a soft whine to show he was apologetic and licked his lips in a sign of submission. He wanted her to know he was no trouble. He was just passing through. "Uhh-buuuhh," he said dumbly, not really sure how to approach the situation he was in. He wanted to leave, now, but he was sure that if he ran off this wolf would give chase, and he was not built to be an athlete or a fighter; he was given just enough abilities to survive. On the other hand, he was no smooth talker, and had no idea how to talk his way out of his situation.

The female's mind had continued to wander as she waited. She couldn't really decide what she wanted to do - leave or stay. She had yet to see anyone, so it would make sense to leave. However, others could be in the area. What to do, what to do, she wondered. Just then, she heard an extremely faint growl that she probably wouldn't have registered, had she been making any noise herself. Kylon turned, seeing the figure that stood in that direction. It was a male with tan fur. His paws were slightly wet. Kylon assumed that was because of wading through the river. Or maybe he'd stumbled into much the same way she had. It was hard to say. He reacted to her with some minor form of shock. After a few minutes of silence between the two, he moved. She watched silently as he dropped his head and tail. "Uhh-buuuhh." He stammered out, then became silent once more. Kylon wagged her tail, happy to see someone else after all the time she'd spent by herself. "Hello, Stranger. My name is Kylon." She said happily, only afterward reminding herself that she should be cautious around strangers. She kept her gaze on him as she spoke, hoping that her words could convince him to speak with her peacefully. He'd come to speak with her, whether by accident or on purpose, and the last thing she wanted was to scare away the one wolf she'd met in this land so far. "Who might you be?" The first thing that came to mind was to ask his name, so she did. He didn't strike her as a pack wolf, nor a strong fighter. However, he was someone to talk to and that was all she wanted at the moment. Technically, she reminded herself, I'm here looking for members for my pack. Though I suppose it would be rude to blatantly state my mind or say that I think he's a loner and ask him to join my pack. It's only right that I speak with him and get a mind for who he actually is before speaking my thoughts. First impressions aren't always the best and all. Tuning out her mental conversation, Kylon returned her attention to the male. She wanted to hear his reply so that she could call him by name, rather than just referring to him as 'the male' or 'stranger'. --- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Dohery scowled as the black wolf introduced herself. He had hoped she would just turn away and leave to go wherever it is she had to go, but now she had initiated a conversation with him. She was unusual, and he found it hard to read how she actually felt. She was more dominant than he was but seemed very amiable, and she was quick to ask a question but then seemed to check herself after. He peered at her quizzically, trying to sort out what her deal was, and how she would treat him as their conversation wore on. ````"My n-name is Doherty," he said resignedly, knowing there were many more words to come. "I-I am sorry t-to have intruded," he said, looking at Kylon carefully, "on your space." He shifted his weight, the cold water beginning to numb his paws. His legs had begun to ache and he was itching to go. The optimal time to hunt was nearing, and he had not had a meal in a few days. Hunger was starting to bite at his stomach, and he would settle for anything at this point; a rabbit, a sparrow, even a worm!

Some questions were in his gaze as he looked at her. Kylon herself had questions. Whether or not he would speak, what type of wolf he was - morally and personality wise, his species didn't matter to her. Finally, he spoke, "My n-name is Doherty. I-I am sorry to have intruded on your space." Kylon smiled. Doherty. That's a name I haven't heard before. The words he spoke after his name took a moment to register in her mind. He shifted his weight after speaking, though Kylon barely registered the movement. "It's nice to meet you Doherty," she said, truly meaning the words as she spoke them. He had seemed like he wanted to move earlier and Kylon wondered why. He had only just appeared here, same as her, and she wasn't all that eager to keep moving on her course. He probably has places to be. He's not just wandering around looking for loners like I am. That's probably the reason Doherty wants to get moving so much. Her gaze wandered for a moment, dragging her mind along with it. The area of land she was in seemed like a nice place, abundant prey mixed with the day's good weather made it a lovely place to be. Her gaze wandered up to the sky. It was about the time that food usually came to her mind. Perhaps I'll go find a snack once I'm finished talking? Maybe Doherty will join me. Who knows? She brainstormed. Then, her attention returned to Doherty and the task at hand. Her thoughts had reminded her of the last part of Doherty's statement. "This land isn't mine," she said shortly. Realizing quickly he would have known this based on scent, she added, "So, you're not intruding at all. In fact, I could be intruding on your space, depending on how you look at the situation." Kylon silenced herself before she began to ramble. She hoped her point had gotten across without being rude. Perhaps her word choice hadn't been the best, but she meant what she said. He was just as welcome here as she was, in her mind. --- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Word Count: 355

Doherty relaxed slightly as her realised Kylon posed no threat. She said he was not intruding on her space, which meant she was not likely to attack, unless he did something to anger or frighten her. Doherty's mouth twitched as she told him she was glad to meet him, and he was not sure how sincere this was. He was antisocial himself, and had forgotten what it was like to be sociable with other wolves, and how it was to live in a pack. He always found it odd when other wolves showed interest in him. Doherty clambered onto the side of the river closest to Kylon, but still maintaining ample space between the two. He shook the water off his paws and, after the inital cold feeling of the wind over his his wet fur, quickly warmed up. More contented, he turned his attention to Kylon. His never shakes started up again, but he ignored the. He was used to them by now. "W-well, Kylon," he started, trying to get control of his speech, "i-if this i-isn't you-r land, wh-where is? Or a-a-are you l-like me, a-and have n-nowhere to g-go?" Although he was not about to admit it to himself, he did find the company of the wolf calming, especially after his most recent encounter with the big male before. He found it a lot easier to talk to the smaller female, who was more his size. Still, he kept his head and tail low, gaze averted.

Kylon hoped he was a bit more relaxed now. She assumed he was, seeing as he had moved up onto the shore. He left a fair distance between them still. Perhaps she didn't feel threatened, but there was no promise that he felt the same way around her. Doherty shook the water off his paws before speaking. "W-well, Kylon, i-if this i-isn't you-r land, wh-where is? Or a-a-are you l-like me, a-and have n-nowhere to g-go?" Although his voice was shaking a bit more now, he kept speaking without stopping because of it. He was probably used to it - or at the very least had dealt with it for a long time, whether he wanted to or not. Kylon had to think a moment before replying to his words. "I have a home. A new piece of land I recently claimed... it's down by the water. I'm not sure if it was ever given a name by earlier inhabitants of this land, so I don't know what name to give you for the place," she replied. There wasn't much to be said of the land she'd recently begun to call home. There was little there, at the moment. That's why she'd made this little endeavor into the world surrounding it. "If you ever want a place to go, you're welcome to go there," she said. There was no one else there. He had said he had no where to go. And that was the politest way she could put it at the moment. If he decided to decline... well, it was up to him now. I did my part. I offered. There's nothing else I can do, not really. Besides, Doherty's a nice wolf. Even if he doesn't want to join, I can still call him my friend. Perhaps he would think of her as friend eventually, and stop averting his gaze so much. Kylon was content with the thought. She liked making friends because she liked to be around others. --- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Word Count: 332

Doherty understood better now, that she mentioned her territory. She had an air of authority about her, the smell of dominance emanating strongly from her. Even though she did not have much of a pack at the moment, she was made to lead one. He trembled at the thought, unsure of how he should act. He was not at all dominant, and in fact was rather submissive. Powerful wolves scared him, and he was often at the bad end of tooth and claw due to his sharp tongue and antisocial nature. "I have never been down by the sea," he said, absently, "I wouldn't be able to help you with a name." When Kylon offered a place in her pack for him, he tensed. He started shaking even more now, obviously distressed. He had not been in a pack for a long time now, not since his old pack were lost in a hunting incident. He parted ways with his brothers and sisters, no longer held there by any loyalty or love to his parents. He was definitely not interested in taking over the pack himself, or living under his siblings' leadership. He was scared, he would not know what to do in a pack anymore, having grown bitter over his months as a loner. "Uuuhhh," he stammered out, look at her with wide eyes, "uuuhhh, w-well, I-I-I haven't h-h-had - er, h-haven't b-been in a-a pack f-for a while n-now," he said, his tail hanging low. "Besides," he said, leering, "wh-why sh-should I ch-choose your pack?"

Kylon listened to his words, wondering how he would reply. "I have never been down by the sea, I wouldn't be able to help you with a name." Kylon stayed silent. She hadn't really needed a name. It would be nice to know, but she could simply call it her land if that was all she had to choose from. He visibly tensed in reaction to the offer of joining her pack. He looked at her, wide-eyed. "Uuuhhh, uuuhhh, w-well, I-I-I haven't h-h-had - err, h-haven't b-been in a-a pack f-for a while n-now," he stammered out. Kylon expected that was his reply - it was a no, in a round-about way. "Besides, wh-why sh-should I ch-choose your pack?" The sudden insult hit Kylon's ears and she pulled back as though struck by the male. Her muscles tensed and then relaxed in just moments. He had every right. I gave him a choice and he made his decision. In his place, I may have said the same thing. I don't know him, he doesn't know me; there's no reason for him to trust me. Kylon rationalized. She had held her tongue long enough now. "A simple 'No thank you' would've sufficed. I won't force you to join my pack. However, I offered. In the end, I did my part. The decision was yours to make. You've said no, and I'll accept that." She said, finally having calmed down. Only a shadow of bitterness was held in her tone as she began speaking, but she pushed it away quickly. Just a bit more of a push and her temper could have taken over. However, the insult was to herself, so she had healed her mind quickly enough. Had the male insulted her friends or had the pack been larger with more people to include in the insult, she wouldn't have been so quick to forgive. For now, she was forgiving. She didn't want to be pushed more than this, though. --- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Word Count: 329

Doherty flinched at her reaction. He supposed his question must have contained more malice than he had intended or thought he had put in. Although he knew he was in the wrong, he was not about to admit it - he rarely was. "Fine," he said, brattily. "No, th-thank you." He glared at her quickly, but dropped his gaze once again. He knew he was stepping into dangerous territory here, but he was too stubborn to stop himself. Doherty walked further up the bank, ensuring he kept his distance from her. His tail twitched, the broken tip flicking awkwardly in relation to the rest of his tail. It was warmer further up the bank, and he felt decidedly more comfortable. He tried edging further along away from her, so that if she attacked him he would have a higher chance of escape. However, he knew he would have to do it slowly to avoid arousing suspicion from the she-wolf. He turned to face Kylon, lower jaw set stubbornly. "I w-was only a-asking, by the way," he added, almost as an afterthought. "It's n-not my fault s-some wolves are sensitive." He shuffled his feet in the undergrowth. "B-besides, I th-think it is a d-decent question. It's not l-like you h-have a-any other members."

Perhaps the smell attracted her. She had not smelt another wolf for days, and the upkeep of her pack had been harder than she had expected; it's the damned loneliness, thought she. It's the bloody expectations. she stifled a growl, keeping her ears keen and her paws muffled, though not stealthy. Having already eaten many of the vole around her territory to save her strength for her pack--for the smell of an elk could attract all sorts of the rabid rabble--she made sure that she made subtle indications of her presence. She kept her head pointed toward the ground, following the scent. Periodically she stood up and examined her surroundings like a deer; to her, such actions seemed childish; who keeps their nose pointed to the ground while on a trail? What wolf behaves like a deer?. the thoughts patronized her though n'er distracted her. she kept her wits about her, her body sleek and low. After all, this territory was not her own.
It did not take long for her scent to long leave her, until she made marks along the thickets of rodents, mammals and the occasional bear. The hackles lifted on her neck at the thought of a bear, more so that she had never seen one. She considered their size, their strengths, the thought of them as mothers or fathers, and wondering how they could possibly live such solitary lives; she found herself frowning, reminded of herself. In an attempt to cheer herself up she thought, I mist find a bear and learn its secrets. She moved along as the wind picked up, moving the leaves scattered about the ground, and prickling the skin un'neath her pelt, reminding she had no companion. Such is the cruelty of the World.
As the leaves scattered, so did the scent. To her poor untrained technique, such would have been the folly of her entire expedition from home had it not been for the whispers of conversation across the air itself. She shook her coat, recognizing the speech as that of other kin. She moved along, no longer indignantly prying the scent off the ground, trodding lightly. Ignoring the cold, she spotted wolves amongst the trees ahead of her. She stopped a moment and crouched, though she knew not why. She simply wanted to listen a moment. Closing her eyes and straining her ears, she fought to catch a few tid-bits of information; something about joining a pack... that one is an alpha... oh, he's rather rude... well.... She opened her eyes and rose herself from the ground, pretending to stretch her back legs in case they saw her. Very Likely. As per her status, she rose her tail high in the air, kept her neck loose, risen yet pointed forward. To make sure she didn't seem to much of a threat, she kept her steps delicate, purposeful. She advanced and came ever so close. then a thought entered into her mind; It would be beneficial to secure good relations with this alpha, but I must not steal her prey nor compromise my values. Keeping two-step sprint from them and knowing they would be cautious, she bowed, "Greetings." Knowing that remaining standing would only make them feel less at ease, she placed herself on her haunches, and curled her tail around her paws as best she could while wagging her tail, relaxing her ears and eyes. "If I am intruding, I will quit this area immediately." She waited to give out her name until asked.

Doherty gave her a quick glare. "Fine. No, th-thank you." He said. After speaking, he moved up the bank. He didn't leave, but he was moving away a bit. Kylon sat, having no intention of chasing him if he felt like leaving. He had given her the answer she'd needed. She hadn't been lying - she wouldn't force him to join her pack. "I w-was only a-asking, by the way. It's n-not my fault s-some wolves are sensitive." He added, turning back to face her. Maybe she had assumed some of the insult in the words. Although, her ears were sure they had picked up some bitterness in his words. "B-besides, I th-think it is a d-decent question. It's not l-like you h-have a-an other members." He said. Kylon frowned. Maybe it was a decent question, in some aspects. However, she didn't really know the answer. Her eyes wandered, catching on movement in the area. Another wolf, crouched to the ground, most likely listening in on the conversation. Kylon wasn't bothered by that, after all, they were out in the open on lands where anyone and everyone was welcomed. She ought to reply now, so that they weren't interrupted beforehand. "Perhaps I assumed some emotions that weren't intended." Kylon said carefully. "As for a reason... I have none other than the fact that I own land and am offering. If it were a good answer, I'd say that I believe I can be a kind leader, so long as pack members listen to me. However, that may make me seem as though I'm a braggart. In the end, it is purely up to you and your impression of who I am." The female never took her eyes off the new stranger, just in case she posed a threat. Only after did she realize that this may seem like a rude gesture from Doherty's perspective. However, she didn't know who this new wolf was. The wolf stretched before standing up and moving toward them. The way she held herself as she walked suggested she was high in her pack's ranks. An alpha, most likely. Well, whether she is or not, I ought to play it safe. I don't want to make another pack angry at this point in time - or ever, really. The female stopped a few feet from the other two and bowed. "Greetings. If I am intruding, I will quit this area immediately,"[/b] she said before sitting down. She doesn't seem like a threat..."I have no problem with you being here, so long as my friend is alright with it." She said, referring to Doherty as 'my friend' in case he didn't feel like giving his name. Kylon was fine with sharing her name, but she didn't want to make the decision for the him. She hoped he didn't mind the use of the word, seeing as the two were slightly at odds, at least for the moment. Kylon still wanted to be his friend, even if he wasn't in her pack. "My name is Kylon." She added, remembering she hadn't given hers just yet. Hopefully, the new wolf would give her name without being prompted. I shared my name, so it would make sense for her to share hers, right? Eh, who knows. I'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, though, she'll be willing to share...--- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Word Count: 561

Doherty's jaw clenched in annoyance when Kylon spoke to him, her attention aimed elsewhere. That would be about right; he was not important enough to get her undivided attention, and she was letting him know that she was no longer interested in him. Well, that was fine by him. He did not want to hang around here any longer, much happier to be on his way, alone. Her words themselves meant nothing to him. She had lost his respect already, and whatever attempts she tried at recruiting him now were not going to succeed. He followed her gaze, however, wondering what it was that occupied her attention, and at first he thought she was just staring into nothingness, when he saw the form of yet another wolf. His heart skipped a beat and his tongue felt thick in his throat. His breath became a rattle, thick and hoarse, and his trembling grew extreme. He could deal with one wolf; but two? He felt like he was going to have a heart attack. Doherty shrank away from the strange wolf as she drew closer, his ears pinned back to his skull and tail between his legs. His whole body was tense, shaking, the whites of his eyes showing and a soft, uncontrollable whine escaping from his throat. This new wolf also walked with an air of dominance like Kylon, and she reeked of it too. This was just the icing on the cake - could she be another alpha? Doherty had not interacted with wolves for a long time before he had entered this forest, and at once he found himself in the midst of two powerful, confident wolves. He stood no chance. He touched his belly to the forest floor, making himself as small as possible, and like his lips submissively. "Wh-wh-wh-who ar-are y-y-y-y-ou?" he squeaked. He barely even managed to get those few words out. This was all too much for him. The sooner he got away, he decided, the better. As the stranger spoke, Doherty could not help but agree with her. Yes, he felt as though she way trespassing, and willed her to go away; but he could not say that, if he wished to get out of this with his life. It was not his place to tell her what to do. Instead, he let Kylon do the talking, and was disappointed when she welcomed the she-wolf into their space. He cast a sidelong glance at Kylon when she called him her friend, and noticed that she was fully relaxed. Hopefully, if she thinks of me as a friend, she will protect me, he thought. Doherty had not been called a friend in a long time, and it warmed him up slightly inside. However, he found it too hard to focus on any of his emotions at the moment as everything was at a turmoil in his head. Fear, anger, confusion, fear, joy, relief, fear. He did not know what was the biggest emotion he felt. He shut his eyes to turn off the outside world, but his head felt full, and it hurt. He whined in distress, but stood rooted to the spot, as still as he could possibly be. Maybe they would just forget he was there, and leave him alone.

Elija looked at the two, unconcerned with Kylon's friend, though she paid her respects and bowed at Kylon once more, then to the nameless one who begged Elija's name. This one has not wished me away, in fact, he has submitted. "I am called Elija," though as she said this, the scent of submissive fear penetrated into her being. Her hackles rose slightly and she managed to close her eyes and breathe past it. Memories, thought she, old memories. She opened her eyes to Nameless, as she dubbed him, the poor, submissive one. "I won't pretend to understand your fears, but you can keep your head as high as mine, if you choose." She paused, stifling a chuckle, "I cannot truly tell if you are fine with my being here or not; speak your will--I will not harm you for your truth." A smile creased her lips--not one that mocked Nameless, but understood that he wished her away. Deciding on a small act of peace, she stretched out and laid down, propping up her torso with her front legs while stretching out her hinds, tail slightly wagging, scraping up bits of leaves; in a subtle way, she made sure that her belly was exposed, not as a means for a challenge, but namely connectivity. She blinked slowly, maybe waiting for the polite announcement of his name before turning her gaze back to Kylon. Though maybe, He is not use to such things.... She sighed.
"I am the Alphess of lands within the forest, a ways from here, under the arms of an Angel Oak; If I may be so bold, where do you hail from Alphess Kylon?" The assumption that Kylon was an Alphess did not seem too far fetched but, one could carry the title all they liked; it meant nothing if no one followed under their rule-- but in this way, we are the same. At that moment, she flicked an ear behind her, monitoring the sounds around her. While still in the youth of her life she practiced all she could, finding multitasking one of the better training mechanisms she ever experienced.
She kept herself somewhat brief in her thoughts, turning her attention back to the Nameless, waiting for a reaction to her exposure, to allowing him space and free-will at his own pace. Remember Elija, keep this brief.... Win the heart of the Alphess, not the pup-- for the sake of peace... maybe an ally.

Kylon's attention moved to Doherty, seeing his response to the new Alpha female. He was submissive as ever and rather afraid, at the moment. Kylon's gaze moved between the two. If it came down to a fight, he would be on Doherty's side. She knew him better and would be more willing to take the side of the one she trusted, even if it meant upsetting the Alpha of another pack. Doherty asked her name, taking the burden off of Kylon's shoulders. "I am called Elija," the she-wolf said. Her words were directed more to Doherty, but Kylon listened anyway. "I won't pretend to understand your fears, but you can keep your head as high as mine, if you choose. I cannot truly tell if you are fine with my being here or not; speak your will--I will not harm you for your truth."[/b] Elija smiled politely before stretching out to lay on the ground. After a few moments of waiting, Elija looked over at Kylon. "I am the Alphess of lands within the forest, a ways from here, under the arms of an Angel Oak; If I may be so bold, where do you hail from Alphess Kylon?" Kylon took in the female silently for a moment, studying her actions. She seemed to be safe, but Doherty seemed afraid of her. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Alphess Elija." Kylon replied, using the title she had been told. She bowed her head respectfully, then raised it to how she normally held it. Normally, she didn't refer to others by their titles, but since the she wolf had shared the title, it would only make sense to use it - at least once. "My lands are near the water - a bay not far from here." Kylon's attention turned back to Doherty, wondering how he was holding up with Elija's presence. Perhaps I made the wrong choice in letting her stay. Perhaps it would've been better if I told her we were busy? Hmm... Sometimes, I just don't understand the way other's think.Kylon dropped her thoughts, knowing she needed to pay better attention now. She wanted to be on good terms with Elija, if not be friends with her. Still, there was no promise that the two could even get along. Not much had been said, which was why she had to pay attention now. Kylon moved her gaze between the two, not wanting to forget one while the other spoke. She really wanted to see if Doherty was comfortable with Elija. He hadn't objected to being called her friend, so maybe it was alright to think of him as her friend. And if he was her friend, she didn't want to lose that friendship. --- Kylon Talhera --- Timber Wolf --- 2 Years --- "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Word Count: 456
